Firstly, I do not want this to be political. So, now readers say: What's coming. Will we walk for peace? Will those out now dedicate a moment, minute, hour, for peace in our world? Will those about to start the way do same? Will others like me who may have to delay this year's camino, due to life's requests, walk in their areas? Hope this request isn't breaking forum rules. But, will we all on camino now, sooner or later walk for: Peace on Earth!

No; maybe for others, but not for me. My Camino will be about dedicating my time to attempting to more fully understand my relationship to God, thru Jesus.... Trying to more fully hear that "still, small voice".... Attempting to re-dedicate my efforts toward understanding my purpose in life. It is about my trying to become the best man I can be, as a Christian. I just don't feel that I can spend time on, what to me, are empty, symbolic gestures when my impact on those around me is directly related to who I need to be.

For others, their mileage may vary. :-)

Peace begins at home with a thousand small actions. I deliberately went out on the night after the London attacks, near where I work in East London, and chatted to and ate with Muslims I didn't know in a cheap chicken restaurant, when they broke fast at 9pm. We had a good laugh about the slow service. I hugged my Muslim cleaning lady on the Monday and listened to her worries about retaliations. I hired a young Muslim guy to help me with a job in my home this week too and we had a laugh about how my mum pretends not to chop veg on my worktops by 'hovering', and his wife chops so loudly you can hear her in the garden. He told me his new baby's name is Adam. Reminder, if need be, that Muslims believe in the Bible.

By the lighthouse at Finisterre, you find a peace pole with the prayer "May Peace prevail on Earth" in different languages. The World Peace Prayer Society has been instrumental in the placement of peace poles around the world, and many individuals, like myself, pray the prayer every day wherever we are. This is one lesson and commitment learned from my caminos. Yes, walk for peace on the camino, but walk for peace every day and everywhere. May Peace prevail on Earth.

Back in the 1960s the world was blessed to have U Thant as the Secretary General of the United Nations who is widely credited with having averted a nuclear war threatened by the Cuba missile crisis. I was in my early teens then but have a vague memory of him having said that it was because of the millions of people praying throughout the world that we were not tipped over the edge to the war.

I always think peace needs to start at home - just my opinion. Buen Camino, SY
As do I Sy - the world as a whole needs to 'Stop for five minutes and just think about what is going on in our own 'backyards' - how can we go out an Walk for Peace if we have NO PEACE ourselves.....(.jmho)
