I've downloaded the app into my phone, but it still requires internet connection, which may not be available. I use an international data plan that is expensive if I use it much. Is there a way to download the info into the phone so that it doesn't require internet connection?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
i used the Sloways app which is 'virtually identical', and also free. I used it because in fact I had trouble getting the VF app to work on my iphone, it seemed to crash a lot. But certainly on Sloways you can download each etapa on to the phone, using wifi. Once done, you don't need internet to use it. It will work perfectly well in aeroplane mode. I think you can download the stages in the VF app also.

Thank you. I did get the Sloways app. When I open a stage and push the download icon, it doesn’t work. Any more advice? I admit I’m not very good at this!

OK I am looking at it now on an iphone. You get to a screen saying Routes VFW01, VFW02 etc

Pick one.

Then in the top right hand corner of the screen is a complicated looking icon with a download arrow and a little pointer in a map. It is v small.

Press on this and a panel comes up saying Donwload map and publication and say OK. It downloads for me in about 10 secs.

IF you go back now to the list page, you will see the icon with a pin dropped on a map at the end of the stage. And you can turn off wifi and data and show that you can still get to the map.

It worked for me perfectly all the way from GSB to Rome!

When you have downloaded it, go into aeroplane mode and press the map itself and the full size and expandable map will pop out. Don't press the arrow logo in the bottom right hand corner of the map. This will bring you to where you are right now. If you are not on the map of a stage, the downloaded map is not going to come up and you may get a blank screen. If you turn on data it will show your present location, but with possibly very little discernible detail.

Thanks for all your help, but although I had done what you suggest it just didn’t work for me. I downloaded the stages from the Via Francigena app instead. That worked fine for some reason!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
That’s interesting. Are you using android or iPhone? I found VF app worked OK but I had to delete it and reload it quite often as it kept stopping.Other people seemed not to have this problem! Buen camino

Mine is iPhone. Who knows the mysteries of technology...

I also use an iPhone (7) and the latest version of the SloWays doesn’t work for me. As soon as I try to download any map it crashes on me! Goes completely black. Have deleted the app and tried again several times, have restarted my phone, nothing works. A friend who also uses iPhone is having the same issue! Maybe it only works with android?? At least now I have the option of the VF app which seems to be working fine.
