Time of past OR future Camino
future Oct 2024
Hello, I hope to cycle the VDLP (Seville to Salamanca) in October 2024.
I am an experienced cyclist but a newbie to the camino. Are cycle-friendly albergues common? Or will I need to book cycle-friendly accommodation in advance?
Also, is the route clearly marked? other caminos seem to have the camino shells signage everywhere but I don't see so much for the VdlP.
Thanks for your thoughts and advice.

Richie

Hey Richie. All of the albergues that I stayed in were bike friendly. I rode without advanced reservations and never had a problem getting a bed. If you check on Gronze.com, you generally can see if the albergue has bike storage. I never had a problem.

Signage along the VDLP was excellent. As is usual, cities are always a bit more difficult to navigate through. I found the app Mapy.cz most helpful for the entire Camino as the route is marked in blue with bike paths also indicated. Buen Camino!

I cycled the VDLP to Santiago in April. All of the albergues I stayed in were bike friendly with good storage. I didn't need to book in advance. Some may start closing in October so it will be worth checking on the day or day before to make sure your destination is open. I cycled on a mix of the camino path and the N630 and signage was great.

There are great resources on this forum including reference to guide books and maps. Gronze is a great resource with contact details for all albergues. If you are not familiar, phone numbers in Spain starting with 6 indicate a mobile number and whatsapp is very popular way to communicate with albergues.

Ask away if you have questions and buen camino

Thanks for the information.

The Via de la Plata is very popular with cyclists so I don't think you'll have a problem. Buen Camino!
