Camino Frances (2016)
As a vegetarian who walked the Camino Frances in 2016 I have put together a list of places where vegetarian food is available along the way...
https://akinderway.wordpress.com/2016/12/04/a-list-of-vegetarian-places-to-eat-on-the-camino/

And some advice by a vegetarian for vegetarians on what to expect and how I ate well! Spoiler alert - Yes it is possible!
https://akinderway.wordpress.com/2016/12/04/is-it-hard-to-be-vegetarian-on-the-camino/

And there are even some original Camino recipes live from the Camino!

My hope is this information is useful to vegetarians planning to walk the Camino and to make the journey a little easier.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Thanks for the updated information, @kindergood. I especially like having the excel spreadsheet.
There are threads here about this from time to time, with everyone's recommendations--what would be useful for restaurants are opening hours. A couple of times I went out of my way to find a restaurant from a list that I have compiled from Forum members' recommendations, only to find it was not open for lunch, or dinner...after that I gave up and just took advantage of what was easy and along the way.

Hi @Viranani
Happy Cow will tell you when restaurants are open - you need a internet connection though. https://www.happycow.net/ - there is also a Happy Cow App.
I also missed restaurants because they were closed - especially on a Sunday!
It's best to be prepared and self sufficient and that's not difficult ;-)

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
I tend to mostly walk 'off the radar'--hence the bumbling around...
In the end it was good, actually, because I had to learn to just settle back into being content with what was easily available rather than seeking. So as a result when that happened to be a good vegetarian meal, I was all the more appreciative and grateful!
A few times on the camino I've had to learn to be very flexible and eat meat--which I would never do normally. But even that was good--but not easy. Flexibility around strongly held principles requires a whole lot of letting go!
;)

You somehow have forgotten Matías Locanda Italiana in Sarria!!! Great people, vegan and vegitarian on the menu, and such an atmosphere.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

My blog is about how to be vegetarian on the Camino, not how to be non-vegetarian off the Camino.
However the same principles would apply off the Camino. We cooked our own meals and it was easy.
Personally I would rather let go of my hunger than my principles, after all Ahimsa is the highest Dharma.
To paraphrase Edgar's Mission (https://www.edgarsmission.org.au/) "If we could walk the Camino without harming others… why wouldn’t we?"

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Maybe. This is one view. There are many others ;):

To do not harm is wonderful, but it is impossible to be alive and not harm someone. As the Tibetan saying often quoted by the Dalai Lama goes, "everything rests on the tip of motivation. " And the bottom line is always letting go of views--as Nagarjuna says: "Whether any teaching is true or not depends entirely on whether or not one is clinging to it."
Best to continue this discussion in PM space it you like....

Members, please take care when discussing beliefs. Religion is religion, no matter the stripe.

Yes I agree, and the choice is ours to make. I'm not here to discuss that. My hope is to provide vegetarians with information to enable them to walk the Camino as a vegetarian and to show them how easily I did it.

Before I left for the Camino I heard stories of how vegetarians "had to eat meat to survive" and frankly this is so far from my experience that it's laughable. Of course if you expect your only source of food to be served to you by someone else then you are going to make it difficult for yourself. Let go of that and set yourself free ;)

For any vegetarians reading this, if you want to be vegetarian on the Camino then cook for yourself. That is how to do it. It is very easy. Spain is rich with vegetarian ingredients that are readily available. The list I have provided is for those times you don't have to cook. Carry a dried meal like cous-cous, pasta, or rice for peace of mind if you want.
I blogged day by day so you could see what it's like. You can do it, just prepare and it's easy and enjoyable. You will eat better, healthier and kinder!

My wife and have completed five seperate caminos ( six for my wife ). We too are vegitarian at home and do our best to comply while walking a Camino. We do however revert to a meat diet while walking. It allows us to eat at the same locations our friends are and takes some of the pressure off when trying to locate specific places. You are right to say it can be done but we have found it " at times " difficult . I do have to say " good on you " for making it work. Buen Camino

Starting my walk on Sunday 2 April 2017 and had accepted there might not be too many vegetarian options. This is great! Thank you so much :)

Good luck Iris and enjoy your Camino. Let me know if you find any veggie options I've missed and we can help future vegetarians!
Buen Camino

I see that SCQ Cafe, Santiago is permanently closed. Thanks for the list!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
