Urgent question at Moclín

Does anyone know of lodging in Venta del Carrizal? Halfway between Alcalá la Real and Alcaudete?
A Bnb run by an Englishman ? A room above the bar?
I want to do a stage tomorrow of 30 some km, not 20 some or 40 some.

I found a mention of a bnb/bar run by the Bailey’s, mother Tric and son Matt but listed telephone not correct. And I found a review by a Camino Mozárabe Pilgrim who had stayed there earlier this year. I suppose no working number means they are no longer there. We have already tried calling the Jaén Association for ideas.

I hope this post is in time to help you. I looked into this earlier this year for Nicolas de Raglaudre; a one-legged pilgrim who couldn't walk much more than 15km per day.

The only option that I could find in Ventas del Carrizal was Baileys Bar and B&B, which was very expensive by Camino standards. If they're still operating and you can afford the price, they're conveniently located.

The best alternative that I could find was Castillo de Locubín - It's a small town a few km off the Camino before Ventas. There are several reasonable accommodations there - Unfortunately, they were not available when Nicolas was walking, but you can call to check availability. Also take a look at the map, because you'll need to venture off the Camino route.

If you want advice on breaking up other stages on the way, let me know - I can dig up my notes from before. The one stage that there really isn't a good way to break up is the last one before Cordoba. For that, I could only recommend to get a lift in a car for the first 4 km until the path diverges from the main road.

Thanks so much. I ended up walking the 35 km from Moclín to Ventas del Carrizal by 5:30, did not succeed in persuading the Baileys to open off season as they had just applied bleach and insecticide powder to the bedrooms. Villagers told me they charge 15 euros for a pilgrim bed if open, though I did not confirm that price with the Baileys. I went to both bars and talked to many people but no one had any other ideas for a bed. Lucky for me, I met someone driving home to Alcaudete and got a ride there. Not my usual habit, but there weren’t enough hours of daylight for me to finish walking the 10 additional km. My mistake that day thinking I could do 45km. But a fine day of adventure, and the polideportivo of Alcaudete was a fine place for a night. Next night was Baena and today Espejo, tomorrow Cordoba.

A note for future visitors to this thread - There are Hostales/Hoteles with pilgrim prices (<€25) at Alcala la Real, rough 22km after Moclin. Soon there will also be a municipal albergue in Alcala la Real. (Rest assured that there’s no need to walk 45km).

For those who want to walk more than 22km but less than 45km, it would be great to confirm whether Baileys offers a discount to pilgrims - A bed for €15 would be awesome at this point in the Camino.
