I usually buy men's swim shorts for kayaking because they come with built-in mesh underwear. They're also good for hiking.
I've started training with them.
So far, I've tried a black Adidas pair of short shorts with lining and a black Puma board short length with no lining. I'm short so they fit me longer. No chafing.
Both are very lightweight nylon and a cinch to wash and dry.
The MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price) for both was $25-30-ish. I paid $15/each at TJMAXX/Marshall's/Ross in the US.
(I've also gotten great deals ($25-35/40) for Teva and Chaco sandals.)
