Travel to St Jean and return to UK from Pamplona

Hi,
I am trying to plan the pilgramage for 6 friends broken into a number of chunks. In the first instance we would like to travel from the UK to St Jean and return from Pamplona 4 days later? Does anyone have best suggestions for this please.
Thanks
JJH

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hi,
You do not say which part of the UK. you are travelling from.

Ryanair have flights from London Stanstaed to Biarritz. From there you can get a bus to the Bayonne train station and a strain from Bayonne to St. Jean at 18.10 arriving St. Jean at 19.35.

However as there are six of you you could arrange to get a taxi direct from the airport which would mean you could avoid the wait at Bayonne station. try http://www.expressbourocot.com who are very accommodating and cheaper than picking up a taxi at the airport. Just email them with your flight number and time of arrival.

You could try coming home via Bilbao. Britiashairways fly from Bilbao to London

Buen Camino

Thanks Lydia,
We are travelling from Bristol and I believe can both start and finish at Stansted, quite a way from us but at least travelling in our own cars in the UK not taxi. This will be our first experience of the walk and we intend to carry all kit and book overnight stays. We are quite fit but the wrong side of 50. How long do you think we should allow for this leg?

Vueling provide a return service - LHR to Bilbao - resonable if booked online way in advance. The rest can be done cheap by bus ........... but for Roncesvalles to St Jean - if it is out of season you will need a taxi. Four days will be Ideal for this leg excluding your travel days.

Hi John,

My plan for next month is (I'm 68 and not too fit) first night St. Jean , then Orisson, Roncesvalles, Zubiri , Trinidad de Arre, . The Pyrenees are steep and all the wisdom on this forum is to stop at Orisson. However you need to book in advance as there are only 18 beds.

May I suggest that you all get walking poles and get someone to show you how to use them properly. They are an invaluable help.

Buen Camino to you all,

Lydia

Your plan is perfect - the first two days however will still be tough - keep the number of a local taxi handy if you find one of the days to hard - God will understand.
