They can be bad, but use trekking poles and take them one step at a time.

To me, the choice of a train or a flight from Paris totally depends on timing. The goal is to get to Bayonne or Biarritz in time for an SJPP train that arrives early enough in the day to enjoy the town and get settled for your overnight.vasque said:
Downhills can be quite steep. In the case of SJPP to Roncesvalles it's a multi-km downhill on pavement or gravel. In the case of Foncebadon to Molinaseca and O Cebreiro to Triacastela they're day-long walks on uneven dirt and rock pathways. Probably the hardest days of walking on the CF. I agree that walking poles or at least a walking stick will be a big help with your bad knee. Buen camino!
