it seems the 90 day rule for buying train tickets in France is being suspended for the summer. Have just bought my ticket from Paris to SJPDP for July 24th on the SNCF site for the bargain price of GB£47.

Yes this is a special offer just on a few routes for July and August, to celebrate the opening of a new stretch of high speed track between Paris and Bordeaux on 2 July. This bit of new track will cut over an hour off the journey time to Bordeaux (and thus to Bayonne). Very exciting! Of course it will also mean changes to the timetable so people familiar with train times Paris-Bayonne should keep an eye on that. And of course it will mean different wait times at Bayonne for the onward trains to St Jean.

Sorry to sound like an ad for SNCF!! I just read about this on their site the other day. The July and August special fares can be booked now, but I think the usual 90 day rule still applies otherwise.

So that was the reason why I could buy a trainticket for an excellent price more than 90 days in advance. I was (am) so happy with my ticket for the 4th of July from Amsterdam to Irun (1300 km) in a little over 9 hours for only 79 euro!
