Camino Frances, Oct.( 2012), Pamplona to Santiago Compostela. Camino Finisterre, Oct. (2015)
My wife and I will begin the Camino Finisterre Oct. 9th. Upon completion we would like to take the train to Donostia. In 2012 I completed the Camino Frances and took the train from Santiago to Bilboa and the bus to Donostia. Is that route still available or something similar? Renfe has not been very clear. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
There is a RENFE train, Intercity 0280, every morning leaving Santiago 10:06 and arriving in San Sebastian 11 hours later before continuing to Irun/Hendaye. Seats should be booked at least the day before you plan to travel.

Thank you very much, is it possible to book as early as now?

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

There are several trains listed from Santiago to San Sebastian/Donostia for your date of travel so you should be able to book them now. No need to travel via Bilbao.

Note there are no direct trains. Transfers at either Madrid, Castejon de Ebro, Burgos, or Medina del Campo.

Note that trains involving a transfer at Madrid require transfer via Cercanias from Chamartin to Puerta de Atocha.

Further note the train described by Margaret is not listed yet. If you want that one wait a couple weeks to see if the schedule is updated.

Thanks, we will look at all options.
