I just got an email that the train from Bayonne to St Jean tonight is canceled. Anyone else see this?

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).

I am curious: Does the email just say that the train is cancelled or does it also say something like check your options online or in the app? This is what I see online:

Current real-time arrival and departure board for Bayonne station:

And although it says "Supplementary train" the TER NA 79,018 is actually a replacement bus of French Railways SNCF with this timetable for today:

Ideal pocket guides for during and after your Camino. Each weighs just 40g (1.4 oz).
Hoping there may be a bus or something.
It says it’s canceled do to material failures.
This is good news, hopefully I will be able to get on this replacement

The SNCF replacement bus scheduled for departure at 18:40 from Bayonne and arrival at 20:19 in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port this evening will leave just outside of Bayonne station.

Are you arriving by train from Paris or are you arriving at Bayonne airport and then make your way to Bayonne station? Buen Camino in any case!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I wish the railway companies were a bit more helpful than just saying that you can't complete your journey and leaving it up to others to pick up the pieces.
A similar thing is happening to me for next weekend - supposed to be travelling from Prague to Berlin and all we got from Deutsche Bahn was "Your journey cannot be completed as planned" and no further guidance. It seems that too is a replacement bus served but we shall see . . .

Tis better to travel hopefully etc.

Buen Camino and may your transport hiccups be small ones.

Arrived in Paris. Our train is stopped right now because of overheating.

Sometimes when the train is canceled you will be directed to the bus service.13 euros , I think.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Phew - two separate issues on the same journey then. Just curious: Was this perhaps booked as a journey with a change of trains in Bordeaux [or Dax]?

Should you not manage to arrive in time in Bayonne for the last connection to SJPP with departure at 18:40 by replacement bus today, there may be other pilgrims or other travellers in the same situation as you are in and you may be able to form a group and share a taxi from Bayonne to SJPP.

In this case (i.e. not possible to reach destination today as booked) you also have a number of rights (reimbursement of all or part of your train ticket, or paid hotel accommodation, or paid transport by other means to final destination) but it is perhaps not so easy to make these claims in a foreign language and foreign country ...

In any case, if you make it for the replacement bus you do not have to buy a new ticket for Bayonne-SJPP. Best of luck and let us know how it went!

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
For now the train from Bayonne is going to SJPP. I’m just on it now. I didn’t see any warnings about train canceled in the evening… so I hope it will all be fine by the time you get to Bayonne…

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
This has been a day.
1. Weather delay in Dallas, TX
2. Have to buy a new train ticket because I miss my original reservation.
3. Get notification of train issues in Bayonne
4. Train I am on stalls for about 40 minutes and now not sure how I will get from Dax to Bayonne.

Trying to embrace the Camino spirit
Praying that the Lord, our Blessed Mother and St James will get me to the start of the Camino

God has its ways I guess. I also had a delay in München, made it to Bordeaux all happy with a chance to catch the train to Bayonne after all… but… on the highway there was a brutal car crash and took us hour and 15 min to get to Bordeaux train station… missed it by 10 min… new tickets, 2h waiting…

It will all be good

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
All part of the adventure. I've had my share of similar adventures. Embrace the adventure.

If you get stuck in Dax for a while, enjoy soaking in one of the hot springs, some connected with hotels. Seriously, a great way to eliminate stress. An interesting historic town. Thanks for mentioning Dax; now I'm thinking about a revisit.

Bus journey is scary they drive like lunatics and that's an insult to lunatics.

I experienced this last year. I walked to the train station and asked an official there. They assured me that in these circumstances a bus would take passengers instead. The bus left from outside the train station at the same time.

I have also read on this forum that it is not unusual for the train to be cancelled and a bus is offered instead.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

I can now consider myself very lucky because I never got this email (else I'm more than positive I'd be just as panicky as so many other folks whos posts we have seen recently on the Forum).
As it was I blissfully got off in Bayonne and was promptly shepherded to outside where the bus was waiting. Didn't even had time to get nervous!

That IS "The Camino spirit'. You are now a Pilgrim and MUST SUFFER!!!!
Embrace it!
P.S. All of the above-mentioned Prayers will undoubtedly help so keep at it

Good luck and Buen Camino
