To walk or not to walk - this is the question

Hi,

I am waiting for an operation on a very painful Morton's Neuroma and a cyst on my left foot. In the past, when I reached the end of my pain endurance threshold, I put my thumb out and hitched the remainder - on the Chemin Saint Jacques from Cahors in September - but now the pain is almost unbearable after a couple of hours and I have to wear sandals as my usual boots make it even worse! Will I still be able to stay in Albergues if I am hobbling and hitching when I set off from Alicante...

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
This is your body's way of telling you to take a stop... I would listen to it. I have very high pain tolerance, but when something breaks through? time to call it. Learned that doing a LOT of distance running and listening to my body when it hurt. there are good hurts and bad hurts. but know when to call it... and while you are laid up? Start planning your next one...

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Only your doctor can answer the question if you should even consider walking. As a rule of thumb sick pilgrims are allowed in albergues even if they arrive by car BUT every day? I don't think that is really an option. Perhaps the Camino is telling you something?

You’ll never know for sure unless you give it a go.

I would go; because you’re a long time dead, but I would go on a route with a greater density of accommodation, or stay in somewhere like Santiago, León, Madrid or Sevilla and try day walks out and back.

What I wouldn’t do is sit at home and wonder - and I don’t get the impression that’s your inclination either.

How did Alicante fare in the recent disaster? I've heard parts of the Lana incurred some significant damage.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
