Helen Burns submitted a new resource:

The Way Is a River of Stars - A Buddhist's Journey Through Northern Spain on the Camino Pilgrim Route

In a memoir of saints, sages, and swollen ankles, Helen walks across the Catholic heartland of Northern Spain. Her chosen route is the Camino Frances, from Roncesvalles to Santiago de Compostela .

Memories and miles intertwine, spanning not only the countryside but also her Christian upbringing and later life as a Buddhist. What is it that compels her into the cathedrals and rustic churches she finds during her month-long journey?

‘Just as I walked from Roncesvalles to Santiago de Compostela...

Hi Helen ,
I have just tried to purchase your book on Kindle through Amazon here in the UK it appears not to be available here is that correct? The book looks great and my wife and me can't wait to get hold of a copy!

Hi Helen, Somehow I missed the first mention of your book so I'm pleased that it popped up in today's digest. The goose bumps appeared as soon as I started to read the preview.

Hope nobody expects me to do anything else today - I'm settling down to a good read.

Hi Julie,
I see you live in Sydney! I'm up in Byron. I hope the goosebumps have proved to be right as you read The Way is a River of Stars. My approach in writing the book is quite niche so I'm thrilled to hear that this delving into two faiths along the Way holds some appeal. Do let me know how it goes.

Kind Regards,

Helen

Hi Helen,
Though I meditate and am drawn to some of the philosophies, I'm not Buddhist but then, I'm drawn to the Camino but am not Catholic either. It is always refreshing to read a Camino book with a difference and yours has led me to ponder many things. Thank you, not only for an enjoyable read, but also for allowing us to share your journey.

Merci JM. It's strange taking years to write a book and then it's public. Knowing that it is appreciated is a wonderful feeling. Kindred spirits, community, pilgrims for life, taking the time - these truly do make for a better world.

And the journey continues ... it's true isn't it what they say, "The real Camino begins at home." I never intended writing a book about the pilgrimage. A few poems and some photos with an old fashioned camera were the only additions to my backpack along the Way. Deciding to write about it became, well, another pilgrimage in and of itself. I was absolutely amazed too at the miracle of memory. A photo or a line from a poem triggered the return of often the smallest detail - someone's smile, the smell of an unwashed sock(!), a particular flower by the wayside. Your comment about the way the book led you to ponder is exactly what happened to me in the process of writing it. I will always be grateful for that. And grateful too, for you sharing your thoughts.

Thank you for the Facebook link, Helen, I had already 'Like' that page, so I'll be getting any postings you make in the future. :)
