The Tears of the Pilgrim...observation

What is in the Tears of the Pilgrim
is it sadness?
is it the tear of release?
is it the tear of joy?

To be sure, something was lost along the way
was it a dearly held idea, whose time is come to die
as the pilgrim slouches home to the proverbial Jerusalem, to be reborn
was it something held painfully close..so much so that the burden is painful
will the person, place or anything under Heaven, be put aside forever, as once the first shoes were outgrown and put aside for bigger better ones?

Did our Pilgrim shed the unneeded dross, wrack and tide tossed wreckage aside
carefully?... one by one, the tally written and then pain paid in full?
did the Tear begin there?

or did it fall away as rust will from the steel beneath? the salt from old and painful wound..finally and completely dropped away to reveal the pink new skin hidden beneath?

of on the moment of transcendence. on some high hill, close to the sun, closer to the silence, hidden there..
have it all drop away, to be thrown onto the far distant shore behind?

the releaf so sudden, unbidden and joyful, the tear wells from the spring inside?

Or is it upon the journeys complete and final iteration. that of lands end, no more steps can be taken,
no more steps to be shared
new friends
old friends
friends in absentia

what are the Tears of the Pilgrim
what are the number of every step of every pilgrim
what are the breaths
what are the drops in the river of tears, through all the years
only the Pilgrim will know
Peace
