I'm interested in any feedback about how to handle the fact that I will have extra gear.
I'm planning to walk from St Jean Pied de Port for three weeks in May next year, expecting to get to somewhere between Burgos and Leon.
I want to fly to Paris, spend about 3 days there, and then take the train to Bayonne and on to St Jean. After Burgos I plan to spend 4-5 days in Madrid before flying home to Sydney. So I will have some extra luggage, not a huge amount but a medium sized box with some extra clothes, an extra pair of shoes, and a packable bag that I will have used to contain it and my back pack.
I've read on other threads that you can take advantage of mail forwarding. Since I'm not going all the way to Santiago I can't take advantage of Ivar's service. But apparently you can forward stuff for collection and the Post office will hold it for 14 days. So I'm thinking I will go to the Post Office in St Jean and forward a parcel to Logrono; collect it there and forward it on to Burgos. I will then collect it from Burgos on my way to Madrid.
So a few questions: I plan to take a morning train from Paris. Will I have time to organise this with the St Jean Post Office as well as organising my Pilgrim Passport on the afternoon I arrive in St Jean? Will they sell postal parcels? How will I address the Parcel? - with a bit of help from Google Translate, something like " A: Correos Logrono Mantenga para la recogida de [my name]"?
How does that sound?
