So if you are walking the Mozarabe, keep your eyes peeled for Iberian Lynx! Here's a pretty recent map of their range - and the Camino looks like it just misses where you'd be most likely to encounter them. But you never know.

Thanks for posting this. I applaud the regional official’s defence of the cost of conservation: ‘Not everything has economic value... Has friendship got a cost? If the lynx disappears, we will of course continue to live on this planet, but I don't think with the same quality of life.’ Long may the spirit of the Camino, like the lynx, radiate from the Camino!

Resurrecting this old thread with an update. It seems the wild population of the Iberian lynx is now over 2,000 and they are no longer officially classed as endangered.
