Tetas de Viana

I am starting to peruse the Lana forum blogs (so many, so VERY helpful!) as I inch towards my camino choice for 2020. Looks like the Lana so far. No real mountains, I know, but I am seeing a few alternatives that might be rewarding. I have seen both @BP and, I think @Kevin F. O*brien mention a little detour to climb up the two anatomically named peaks. Looks like about 400 m up.

Wikiloc trails make it look very doable.

Stages could be something like
Valdeolivas to Viana de Mondéjar (28), Viana de Mondéjar, up the Tetas - Trillo - Cifuentes (30).

Has anyone done this? Buen camino, Laurie

Thanks for this, Maggie, Alan broke his Lana up into two different parts, and I had only read the first one! Lucky me, more of @alansykes’ account to read. You guys really know how to whet my apetite for my next Camino!

I liked my side trip up the Tetas very much. The ascent was 400m in about 2.5km, which is quite a lot, but the final assault on the summit is helped by a metal chain and finally a ladder up to the very top. And once you're up there the 360° views were utterly spectacular, with the Tajo's mazy meanderings far below, and back over Cuenca province shimmering in the haze. Also the less attractive tetas of the twin cooling towers of Trillo's nuclear power station.

There is a local saying about the Tetas de Viana: "muchos las ven, pocos las maman". I'm happy to have been one of the pocos. Staying in Valdeolivas for the night before is an excellent idea, as it's a lively, friendly town (and the only ATM between Cuenca and Cifuentes), and Salmerón, despite its comfortable Inquisition albergue, is a bit sad. Strongly recommend the detour to Sigüenza, as I'm sure you'd enjoy the romanesque churches, and especially the serene sad beauty of the Doncel reading over his tomb.

Following up several years later, with the hope that my Lana will actually happen this year!

On the virtual planning thread, AJ posted a link to tracks that are several kms shorter than Alan’s, yet both go off camino to go up to the top.

Does anyone know what the differences would be, other than 2 kms?

Hard to say. In fact, I would like to point out that those two tracks are identical!
