Has anybody stayed at tanaba before starting their kumono.I was thinking it might be nice to slowly enjoy Japan instead of rushing ahead at a frantic pace.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
We just walked 2 of the 5 Kumano Kodos this past March and had a wonderful stay at Kamenoi Hotel in Tanabe City with a very good onsen and excellent buffet meals. They had a shuttle pick us up at the station (where there is a tourist office with maps and other good information on the various Kumano Kodos). The shuttle returned us to the station in the morning where we caught a bus to the start of the pilgrimage. Fyi, How The Kumano Kodo Is Different From The Camino de Santiago.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Is tanaba city a nice place to spend a day next to the coast
Nice enough. Some shrines, the sea, some monuments. Again the tourist center next to the train station is a good place to get options and decide whats best for you. Though after your pilgrimage you might want to consider this fabulous seaside onsen hotel Kyukamura Nanki-Katsuura.
