suggestions for 1st night stop after a midday start from Porto

After an early morning train from Lisbon to Porto and getting passports, I am estimating a departure time from Porto midday. Any recommendations for Albergues 2-4 hrs out? Start traveling this Tuesday, 1 Sep; yea!

I should suggest stay in Porto for a day. Worthwhile sightseeing.
There are two ways to get out of Porto . The original one but partly through an industrial and busy area and a detour along the Atlantic ocean.
If you should choose the first option I suggest to go to the Porto metro station Trindade in the center and take the metro to Forum Maia. Walk from there in a more rural area to Mosteiro de Vairão where is a nice albergue in a former monastery.
The next day you can walk on to São Pedro de Rates or further. I do not know the number of days you want to spend and your pace.
If you want to walk the detour along the coast, advisable is to take the metro from the same Trindade to Matosinhos -stop Mercado -and walk from there to Vila do Conde. There unfortunately is no albergue but several hostals.
From Vila do Conde is the waymarked connection to São Pedro de Rates.

Thank you for this information: we are staying in Porto with friends for 4 days and plan to leave them on Saturday to start our walk: we felt as it was our first day we didn't want to walk too far. I will check the distant to the first albergue in Mosteiro de vairdo and if okay then we will stay there.....would you advise that I book ahead? This is our first Camino so apologies if I sound very vague. Thank you

Another option is to walk along the river to Matosinhos the first day - it's about 10km depending where you start from. There are lots of little pensions - I'd book one on booking.com.
We did that and then the next day walked along the coast to Vila Cha and at that point turned inland and used a map to get to the central route that took us to the lovely monastery Albertinho mentions. No need to book there - they have lots of beds, three to a room and very spacious (plus a good kitchen and a wee grocer nearby if you want to cook)

Good morning: While looking at modes of transport from Santiago to Porto I noticed there is an option for a shared [buss/car] facility which is less expensive. Can I ask if anyone has used this and if so do you know if there is a similar facility to Santander. To date we haven't made up our mind that once we have completed our Porto>Santiago stretch of the Camino to either return to Porto or travel on to Santander for our return flight to Edinburgh. Thank you
