A leaked document from Eurotunnel gives advance notice of an exciting new project. The company has decided to provide a pathway through the service tunnel beneath the English Channel to allow pilgrims and others to walk uninterrupted from their homes in Great Britain to Santiago/Rome and other continental destinations.
The path will run from Folkestone to Sangatte, and will be single-track with passing places every 500m. A sleeping station will be built at the halfway point, with built-in shelves to accommodate 40 pilgrims.
Reaction from the public was mixed: one walker, who wished to remain anonymous, felt that the single track/passing bay system would cause problems: if meeting another coming from the opposite direction one would have to give way and back up as much as 250m to allow passing. Dan Ibreve, from the company , agreed this could be a cause of conflict, and suggested that alternating north/south convoys could be the answer.
A.Nirgerep, an experienced camino hand was, however, more positive. "I've long wanted to walk non-stop from my doorstep to Praza da Immaculada, and now I have the chance", she enthused.
The company will officially unveil their plans next Friday.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Your ticket will be stamped on your credencial, with a symbol of Neptune holding a scallop shell.

I'm walking the Via del Mar - as long as I can fit that old fashioned diving suit into my pack.

I do not know about the rest of the world, but here in Oz (Australia) 1st of April is fools day, a day for pranks, tricks and jokes, and those who believe the the trick are labelled as April fools:)

Before the tunnel started taking train traffic there was one - just one - occasion when they allowed people to walk it for charity.

A very good acquaintence was the chariman of the company that built the British side of the tunnel and he didn't think to mention the walk to me.

I have regreted that lost opportuntiy ever since so I am probably the only person here who didn't appreciate the joke.

Sorry.

(Though I am glad that others have found it wonderful).
