Shorter stages desired...help!!

Hello Fellow Portuguese Pilgrims,

I am hoping to shorten up the stages from Lisbon to Porto in my upcoming Camino. Ideally, looking at doing 15 kms a day...no more than 20 if at all possible. If any fellow traveler have found alberques/lodging that books such as Brierley's do not have listed in between the listed stages, please shout em out!!

I am wondering if it is at all possible to just "wing it" & walk the PC without having my lodging booked ahead of time. Right now all I have booked is my first 6 nights in Lisbon (where I plan to sight see a bit) and I am scheduled to already rave home for Portugal next Tuesday, the 12th. Yikes!

It is slightly out of date now, well maybe a bit more than slightly, because there are new places popping up all the time. Here is what I would suggest. For your first day, walk to the albergue in Alpriate. It has been in operation for a year, is right on the Camino, 20 km from the cathedral, and a great first stop. From there, the hospitalero/a will be able to help you with stage planning. I don't think there's any need to have your stages planned out, but having a good list of albergues and distances will be very helpful.

When you said you were scheduled to "rave home" I think you meant "leave home", and if that's the case, you are really getting down to the wire, close to departure time. This is great, Laurie. Thank you so very much! I will look at these closer when I get home & will definitely be printing them out. And yes, the lodging in Alpriate I do already have written down & have this place in mind for my first official night on Camino. I have actually tried contacting them but to no avail. And so thought I'd just try again once I arrive to Lisbon at my alberque next week.

I am relieved to hear that you think it's doable for me to plan as I go along. And yes, I do have some recorded in my journal including the new one before Porto that somebody had kindly posted about.

Hi, Lisa, I don't know if you have seen the SOS pilgrim phone number that the Via Lusitana has on its web page. 24/7 help for pilgrims in Portugal. 915 515 213 (from inside Portugal). They also run the albergue, so you could call that number once you are in Lisbon and they can give you any information you need (and it's also a great thing to have in case of emergency). But don't worry, you will have a place to sleep there. The villagers help out in case overflow is needed, as I understand it.

Mario in Santarem at the Santarem Hostel will also be a great help to you in planning short stages. Don't miss that place, everyone loves it too!
