Buen Camino!!

It's me again.. you can sense that my Camino is just around the corner.

I've been trying to buy an advance ticket from Santiago to Porto but trying to buy ticket from http://www.autna.com/ seems to be a challenge. The drop down list doesn't show any origin from Santiago, unless i'm missing something, while pdf document schedule shows that there's a trip between santiago and porto.

Is there any other public transportation where I can buy ticket? or what are my chances of getting a seat when I buy it during the day itself? What my other options? I leave SDC for Porto on a Monday and I prefer to arrive Porto in the morning.

Thanks,
Dennis

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Hi Dennis,

The website seems odd in that it advertises the service between the two but doesn't give you the opportunity to purchase. The schedule does imply that there is a change of bus in Vigo so maybe it is on to a different carrier. Maybe drop a note to them on the contact page to see if they can help that way.

As an alternative Alsa have a bus once a day at 12:00. I see while I was writing this that Olaf has just posted details of how to access the schedule

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
How about the train - RENFE (or buses) should be over with their strike by then.

There is (or was) an small Alsa sales booth in the courtyard by the Pilgrim Office. It was near the bathrooms.
Maybe someone can confirm it is (or not) still there.

Note there is not a central bus station in Porto. Bus companies have their stops at different locations.

Monbus from Santiago to Vigo. Transfer at Vigo to Autna bus to Porto.

The pdf document also says trips from Santiago de Compostela to Porto mean a change of buses in Vigo what might be the reason why the can't be booked online. If you are interested, you might try asking Autna about it using the contact form available on their web.

The only direct option is the daily noon bus from Santiago de Compostela to Porto operated by Alsa. (Note: Porto is Oporto in Spanish).

You can also make the route changing buses in Vigo. Monbús from Santiago de Compostela to Vigo and Autna from Vigo to Porto.

If you prefer train, train from Santiago de Compostela to Vigo and another one from Vigo to Porto.

Holoholo automatically captures your footpaths, places, photos, and journals.
We buy direct bus tickets Santiago-Porto through a travel agency in Santiago one day before traveling. Other options can be looked at if by chance the Alsa bus is fully booked. So what?

I had just booked with ALSA online and it went through without issues. The tip on looking for international made it very easy.
Thank you,
Ricardo

For further reference, in case somebody has the same question.
  • Regarding buses, ALSA, Flixbus and Eurolines cover this route.
  • For trains, one would first need to go to Vigo with Renfe (Spanish Railways) and then change to another train with Comboios de Portugal (Portuguese Railways). Loco2.com is very helpful in such cases, since you can book both tickets together with just one payment at an easy-to-use website/app.
  • Another option that can be worth mentioning is car-pooling. BlablaCar is the site for that. Note that the drives are usually offered at a short-time in advance only.
I find the search engine Travelinho.com very useful for routes like this one, as it considers all the options mentioned above in just one search and will additionally show also any possible combinations via Vigo.
Hope this helps.
