Santiago dC to Salamanca…?

Camino2014

Pilgrim
Time of past OR future Camino
Piémont, Frances, Littoral, Norte, Ingles (completed) Baztan, St. Jaume, Portuguese (planned!)
Hi all,

I am planning on spending two days in Salamanca after the Camino, but transportation from SdC seems scarce. All I can find is a commuter train that takes about 7,5 hours and would force me to transfer in Medina del Campos (which is WAY out of the way!).

To those who have travelled this way before: are there any direct train/bus routes to Salamanca from Santiago (AVE train preferably)? What is the fastest way to Salamanca?

ALSO: I will be travelling (hopefully) on July 26, the day after St. James' Feast. Will this pose any problems transportation-wise (will the train/bus stations be open)?

Thanks for your help!!!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
The train from Santiago to Medina del Campo is Alvia ... 250km/hour ... so its not a commuter train.

Further, look at the map and Medina del Campo is not that far out of the way. Given the distances involved, you likely won't find a faster route.

One suggestion might be to find information about the bus station in Salamanca to find if you can get a better connection from Medina del Campo or perhaps Zamora by finishing the trip by bus.

Salamanca airport SLM - note the destinations page only shows connections to Barcelona.

Hello camino 2014,

I took the train, if i recall correctly, from sdc to madrid and get off in zamora as there is no direct train to salamanca. Then i walked to the bus station which is a short distance from the train station. There are regular buses on weekdays to salamanca. I would not recommend you travel on weekend as there are few busses to salamanca from zamora.

Have a safe journey to salamanca, which is a centre of learning and has the second oldest university in europe. Buen camino and good luck.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Hello! I’ve been browsing the forum and there’s plenty of info for baggage transfers from stage to stage, where you pick it up daily, give it back and move on, however what I’m after is a service...
