Wanted to share that REI sports store in San Diego is holding a class on snow safety for those pilgrims considering walking in winter. It's a 1 hour long and the class is free. They also have a class for beginning hiking (fee) as well as several others.

I'm sure other stores do these classes too so check your area if you are interested.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Here´s a couple of tips for you regarding snow.

If you do encounter snow when crossing e.g. the Pyrenees , don´t be the first to start walking. Let others open up the path. Walking in virgin snow is extremely tiring.

As well when coming down a slope, dig you heels first into the snow. You avoid risk of slipping and sliding down the mountain slope.

Buen Camino!

Good advice. Thank you. I was at REI today and saw these light weight chains/crampons for hiking boots? Thought they may give me a little extra traction if there is snow/ice. Any thoughts?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Somewhat unrelated but related to San Diego. Anyone know two women, Barbara and Cathy, who were walking last September with Eileen from Portland. If so have them contact me.
