OK so i've spent a couple of days digesting all the posts on this sub-forum and as I have a couple of months (September and October) in which to walk am considering instead of walking SJPP to SdC all the way on the Frances getting to Leon and taking the Salvador then the Primitivo.

It's all the fault of @Al the optimist and his post the other day which brought to my attention that you could walk Leon to Oviedo then from Oviedo to SdC on the Primitivo ;)

Any rough ideas what the weather would be like late September on the Salvador - Is it a good time of the year to walk that route? - I estimate (depending on feet, legs and general health) that I would arrive in Leon around the 26th/27th September and have a couple of days there before heading off again.

From what i've read here I would prefer not to walk alone to Oviedo so if anyone fancies joining me let me know :)

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
@WildPlace expect the usual warm, and occasionally wet, autumn weather. Snow will be very unlikely to fall so no problems with the Salvador or Hospitales on the Primitivo.

A great time of year to walk with the prospect of some fungi foraging in some of the forests. Just beware of shortening day lengths and make sure you use all the day light. Some stages are on the longer side and accommodation is sparser than is found along the Frances.

I walked solo on both routes though there were always other pilgrims around. The only place I found myself alone and uncomfortable was in the sad and battered Albergue at Mieres.

Ideal time of the year. I amone who doesn't want to walk it alone, but perhaps you can entice a few Frances walker to follow you. On the Norte many people "get detoured" to the primitivo like this by fellow walkers.

All excellent feedback and advice, very many thanks @Tincatinker

Haha, I now have this vision in my mind of being like the Pied Piper and leading astray a whole bunch of Frances peregrinos, off up into the mountains :D

I started alone on 20th September 2016. First day from Leon was too hot but from then it was perfect. Fair bit of fog in the mornings though and one evening of rain in Berducedo.
of course the day I joined the Frances in Melide the rain started and continued off and on until Santiago. I'm sure you will love the Salvador and Primitivo..

Thanks Heather - there is some great information here as always :)
