A judge ordered the burial of a Basque man ( residence in Catalonia? ) who died in Rabanal.
After six days no one claimed the body.
So he will be buried in Santa Colomba de Somoza. The locals were asked to attend the funeral.

He must be someone's son, father, brother. . . hope his family finds him resting in peace.

Reading through these gentle, caring posts made me realise that, on this final journey, our Unknown Pilgrim does not walk alone.

He is all of whom have ever set out for Santiago and he is one of us.

How far a little candle throws his beams...

And I cannot stop wondering that somewhere someone misses this man ....if that makes sense? Really makes you think what happened in this man's life?

Apparently the police went out of their way of duty to find some relatives that were interested in him - but to no avail. Perhaps he was a loner and didn't want to have relatives/relations (wild guess here!). Perhaps he is missed but those people accept that he didn't want to attach himself to anybody? Like @Wokabaut_Meri said: he is/was one of us, a pilgrim. He has finished his earthly pilgrimage and, as I might add, is now on a far more exciting pilgrimage. Buen Camino amigo peregrino, SY

I lit a candle and said a prayer for him at St James on Church James street-a step or two away from the site of the old St James Gate where medieval Irish pilgrims used to congregate before setting off on their pilgrimage.
