Buen Camino everyone. What is usually the plan once you reach Santiago. Can people walk back and stay at albergues on the return leg of the trip? Or do people just bus or train back to the destination of their choice? I am leaving from Porto and have given myself around 17 days. Want to take a couple of rest days on the way as well as a day or 2 in Santiago.

I will also be walking that route this summer, with my daughter. It’s my first Camino, so I’ll be interested to see what others suggest.

My plan is to take a train back to Porto for the return flight home. We should have a couple of extra days after reaching SdC, so I’d like to go to Finisterre and/or Muxia. It sounds like it’s easy, and reasonably priced, to do that by bus if there isn’t time to walk that part.

I'd say that 99.9% of pilgrims don't walk back to where they started. But I believe that those who do are able to stay in albergues.

A thousand years ago pilgrims had to walk back to their homes Yes, you can stay in albergues if you are walking, you are still a pilgrim.

I am not sure if you mean you have 17 days after you walk in which to get to Porto, or if you are coming from Porto and allowing 17 days to walk. I think walking from Santiago to Porto would be fun, should take about 2 weeks, and you could follow the blue arrows (for Fatima).
