How awesome Trecile. i didn't think they allowed. I will get that app soon. I was looking at it some time ago, seems like it is a bunch of different apps. One must buy the one for the single route correct? Like i get the caminoninja for portuguese camino correct? Not sure if i understood this correct or it is one app with all the caminos included in it?Looking on the Camino Ninja app there is a button to make a reservation there.

I believe that it's just one app. There are a number of routes, and you just choose your route. I haven't actually used in on the Camino yet, but @camino.ninja has posted often that it is kept very up to date. @camino.ninja can tell you more about how the app works. How awesome Trecile. i didn't think they allowed. I recently downloaded a few apps and i am trying them and learning. First the free ones just to check. I thought Camino ninja apps are a few separated ones for each routes and each one have a fee. Will recheck that. So many apps that i am going crazy! Lol Probably confusing with another app?? By the time i go i will pick one or two i like best. The Camino Ninja App is free.
Hi everyone! For those that have been there, i have a question about the albergue of Sao Pedro de Rates. Do they accept reservation or It is first come first served? Thanks
Yes i checked and installed its just one. No feeThe Camino Ninja App is free.

From what I see and what others have said they are doing a good job of staying current on opening/closing.Is the Gronze website updated? I’m planning my Portuguese Camino for early November and reviewing Gronze options I wondered if it’s up to date.
Great I didn’t see any date on their pages. That’s good news. From what I see and what others have said they are doing a good job of staying current on opening/closing.
Thank you Nick saving me. I know all this new stuff i am research is driving me a little crazy lol but so many apps and new stuff, hard for my old brain to remember the names of all them when u first starting to test them all. I don't want an app overload but some of these apps are indeed incredible practical and it is awesome the job they have done with it to help us pilgrims. Aproveita muito o seu proximo caminho. Obrigado. That's Wise Pilgrim.
They just contacted me Back and told me to fill out the form for reservation. awesome.I emailed them for a reservation in September and they got right back to me to confirm.
So far the ones they listed and that i contacted this week they are open and i could make reservations. In my experience so far it seems very updated. Is the Gronze website updated? I’m planning my Portuguese Camino for early November and reviewing Gronze options I wondered if it’s up to date.
Thank you so much David. I need to make sure of that “for real” because i want 1- to stay there, 2-i am making a reservation and 3- i plan to send my pack. If in case they don’t offer this service what would be plan B for me if i must to send my pack?Just to alert you in case you are thinking of transporting your bags. Many places that accept reservations also accept bag delivery. But when I was in Rates in 2018, I saw someone who had sent his bag ahead there redirected to a local shop where they had to deliver it. The albergue in Rates did not accept backpack delivery.
On the other hand, they did have a very nice two-colour stamp (made by combining two stamps, one for each colour).
Possibly because it's a donativo albergue run by volunteers, and they don't want to be responsible for the luggage.Just to alert you in case you are thinking of transporting your bags. For the volunteer at the desk the day I stayed there, it didn't seem to be just this, but also a bit of the "a real pilgrim carries their pack" attitude. The person who had sent his pack ahead had difficulty signing in and not being sent to the back of the line after the "real pilgrims". Having companions who had carried their packs who vouched for him helped/Possibly because it's a donativo albergue run by volunteers, and they don't want to be responsible for the luggage.
I can think of two options:Thank you so much David. I need to make sure of that “for real” because i want 1- to stay there, 2-i am making a reservation and 3- i plan to send my pack. If in case they don’t offer this service what would be plan B for me if i must to send my pack?
Awesome you resolved my equation.I can think of two options:
1) If you have a medical reason for sending your pack ahead, you can explain it to the volunteers when making your reservation and hopefully they will understand and make an exception. I believe a number of albergues that don't normally accept bags will do so when there is a "good" medical reason.
2) If you don't have that card to play, you can ask the baggage transport company if there is somewhere else they can drop it in Rates as you understand that the albergue doesn't receive them. Then pick it up before you check in to the albergue.
I have to say that after all your threads about lightweight gear and packing light that I'm a little surprised.i plan to send my pack.
That is exactly what i will probably be doing. When i feel like carrying it, i will. Specially on long stages i will not carry it even if light. Short ones i can try. I will let my body/pain decide. In the meantime i do prepare hopefully the pack lightweight enough that i could have the choice. If i pack too much my body will tell to send all the way through. Since it is a first time i think flexibility will be better for me. But in the end in September i see if pack is very heavy then i will probably send it the all route. I am not decided one way or the other. I need to check final weight first. So far I don't see a problem either way if light i carry some days and if heavy always send it. Once i get the final weight inside pack the answer will come to me from my back and knee lol.I have to say that after all your threads about lightweight gear and packing light that I'm a little surprised.
I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with sending your pack, but if you are there is not so much need to limit its weight. Unless you think that you will carry it on some stages and send it on others.
Hi ColetteIs the Gronze website updated? I’m planning my Portuguese Camino for early November and reviewing Gronze options I wondered if it’s up to date.
And they can't always be there ... they may be out shopping for the next meal, outside (or on the roof) hanging laundry or on their hands and knees cleaning the shower floor and don't hear the door. It's not they don't want to, but they can't always be there to receive the backpacks. Yep ... been a hospitalierPossibly because it's a donativo albergue run by volunteers, and they don't want to be responsible for the luggage.
