Question about donating to the forum

Hi, Ivar and cyber-experts,

I have seen your very reasonable request for donations to help support the forum, but I have a question. When I followed the instructions about how to donate, it brought me to a site for putting in my credit card. That site, though, didn't seem to be a secure/https site. I am confident you have set this up in a safe way, but just wanted to check on that.

Thanks for the help, buen camino, Laurie

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I did this recently, and when the payment was made, it was on a secure site, even if the forum donation site isn't secured.

Mine went through paypal, which has always been secure in my experience.

Thanks, peregrinos. I will make my donation. Not to editorialize too much, but I have benefitted so much from this forum in so many ways. I've gotten lots of advice, had a place to focus my camino dreaming, and even gone from cyber friendships to real in person friends. This is a great place, no doubt about it.

And -- tis almost the season to give and give generously! Buen camino, Laurie

We PMd Ivar before I saw this thread. Our experience with PayPal is fine, but our question was whether the 0 options with the default wording 'Do not repeat' made it a 'one off' payment and putting in the numbers made it a regular payment. (Reading it again I think it does)
Stopping regular payments on a credit card is difficult so we want to get it right first time.

Just an update to previous post. Ivar's reply PM says that leaving the 0 in both boxes etc is a one off payment.
A good way to say thank you to him whether it is a one off or more regular. It must take a great deal of work and dedication to keep the site running

(Edit) We have done it. Works well and the no ads is great. Putting the forum badge link in the top bar is good too.
Thanks Ivar.

It's painless I promise! I suffered no ill consequences when I bought my forum patch but then again, my credit already sucks!!

I have spent countless hours on this site and enjoy feeling connected to my kindred spirits!! The forum saved my sanity when I gave up television to save for my camino and prevented me from crawling back to the satellite providers like a crazed junkie. I'm not a mindless American anymore and that is surely priceless!!

Hi all,

I just saw this thread.... I use PayPal for payment (the easiest) and they are known to be secure and I have not had any problems with them since I started selling the badges.

If for any reason, you make a mistake and would like me to return an amount, just let me know. I think I have 15 (or is it 30, don't remember) to make a full refund without any penalty from PayPal.

Thank you to all of you that have already donated! It really makes a difference for me. ...and I hope taking away the ads for those that have donated will make the site load even faster, making it more pleasant to use :-)

Greetings from Santiago de Compostela,
Ivar

So that is the difference - I don´t see the ads anymore. Great!
And the forum works great right now.

Hi, Ivar,
I think my payment went through on paypal! I just want to say that I'm happy to tolerate the ads if they provide any additional revenue to you. So no need to take me off if that's the case.

Thanks again, Laurie

I just got it! Thank you!

I took away the ads for you as well, should be the same for everyone  . The site should load a bit faster now.

Thanks again!!
Ivar

I am never entirely comfortable with Paypal but maybe that is because I have received notices on my e-mail account about my Paypal Account when I don´t actually have one! I donated via my debit card and received a notice of acceptance to "Ivar" almost straightaway in my e-mail (which I gave). I´m OK with this. TS

We'll, I never saw ads, except at the top, and they're still there after donating.. but ::shrug:: they don't bug me.

The link to donate seems to have disappeared for those who have donated. Does this imply that the Forum does not want/need a second donation? :D  :D

It disappeared along with the other ads Falcon including the Forum Badge link. Ivar has now put the badge link elsewhere.
To donate all you need to do is not log in, and then the ads are there including the donate button :) However might it then not be tagged as a member ? :?: Q. for Ivar :?: Maybe Ivar will lift the ads blocker if he would like a further donation. I would hope he does as I for one would be happy to see when there is a greater need again, but meanwhile am glad to be ad free.

Did you send a donation? If so could you send me the PayPal e-mail address you used? I can not find you! :-)

Oh, and can you enlighten me what the 'premium forum' is all about? Thanks! SY

It is a forum that I am trying to figure out what to do with... it is available to donating members (€40 and up). Recently I have posted photos there from my walks around Santiago (for those that are not on facebook and see them there).

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Hi Ivar,
Just a query, does taking the ads off for donating members reduce potential revenue for the forum? Personally I would have no problem at all leaving the ads in place if this meant improved revenue for the forum. Best regards George

I guess the idea is that if you donate you contribute that way. Ads only contribute to the forum if they are clicked.. (Please only click on ads that you find interesting...)

I think it is working nicely that way it is now.. no ads is also contributing to that you might come back more often and interact more... that in the end is what the forum is for.

Thanks for your donation!

I want to donate 'cause I think this site rocks and Ivar, I would love to meet you some day. In the meantime, can I donate in dollars, or is there an exchange process or, or, or,or. OK, how do I do this?
Just sign me,

Since I have set this up with fixed euro amounts... you chose the amount in euros and Paypal will convert that into USD at the rate of that day. Thanks for your nice comments!! :-) ..let me know when you are in town.

Ivar, I did all of the above and then suddenly found myself registering into a PayPal registering process. Heavy sigh here from Denmark.

Best, annelise
Hei Annelise,

Sorry that you are having trouble. I know PayPal is not optimal, but it what I have available to me at this moment. I am working on an alternative.

I just created this new posts with step-by step instructions on how to do it. Try it and see if this helps.

Hei Ivar, thanks.

I realize you have problems with this. - I guess many/most are on paypal - but being a kind of conservative person myself, I would choose not to spread my data overly much. Your link again puts me over paypal. Maybe I will just to have to succomb to new ways, new modern modes.
