Hi all. I am starting from Ponferrada on the 11th October. I will be walking from Villafranca to Las Herrias on the 12th which is national Spain day. Will restaurants etc be open? Are there festivities in Ponferrada that day? Maybe I can delay to see those? Tia.

I was in Ponferrada on Oct. 12, 2019, and they waived the entrance fee to the castle because of the holiday! The castle is worth seeing if you have time. If there were festivals, we didn’t see them. We ate in a hotel restaurant across the street from the castle entrance; I think there were some bars open, too.

Nothing much going on in general. There's a military parade in Madrid, but no festivals elsewhere. Expect shops to be closed on the 12th, but restaurants should be open. It's a long bank holiday weekend for many in Spain. Many people use the opportunity to travel. This could mean accommodations being fuller than expected throughout the weekend.
