Hello fellow pilgrims,

On the Camino Primitivo back in September, a pilgrim mentioned that one could obtain a certificate (not a compostela) for having completed the Portuguese Way. I walked it (the interior route) back in 2018, and wasn't aware of this Portuguese certificate at the time. Is it the one known as the Pedronia? I've just checked my credential, and have a stamp for the parish in Padron. Is it possible to request this certificate by mail? Thank you for your comments.

The tourist office in Padron offers pilgrims a “Padronia” certificate signifying that they have made a pilgrimage between Padron and Santiago. The intent is to get people to walk between those two cities, specifically from SdC to Padron as a “mini-Camino” possibly after arriving in SdC.

It not issued by the Catholic Church like the Compostela and has no historic precedence, but it IS a nice certificate. As far as I know, it must be requested and received in-person, but interestingly enough, they will issue it to you even if you have not reached SdC yet as long as that is your intent.

Ok, thank you! I may go get it in Padron on my next camino. Thinking of walking the Madrid in the spring of 2022.

The Pedronía can be obtained at the tourist office in Padron.

The requirements are to have walked a distance of 18kms prior to arriving at Padron, or walked from Santiago to Padron AND then visited various sites in Padron

Thank you GOLLYGOLLY for the complete rules of the Padronia. Sadly, the Tourist Office didn’t ask us if we had done any of those things - it was purely a bureaucratic interaction. 😞.
