You don’t have to visit the tomb of St James in a Holy Year to obtain a full plenary indulgence.
In the early middle ages the 30 December was St James’ Feast day, based on the old Hispanic (Mozarabic) rite.
In the 11th century King Alfonso VI abolished the Hispanic rite in favour of the Roman rite and July 25 became the principal feast day to commemorate the martyrdom of St. James.
The 30th December was incorporated into the present liturgical calendar as the Feast of the Translation of his relics.
And, just to confuse matters more although we celebrate his Feast Day on 25th July using the Roman Rite calendar, it was formerly on the 5th August on the Tridentine Rite calendar.
The plenary indulgence is given, not only in Holy Years, but also in ordinary years on Easter Sunday; 21st April - the anniversary of the consecration of the cathedral; and on St James's three feast days. (25th July, 30 December and 23 May).

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
As posted elsewhere (http://www.santiago-today.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3078&hilit=), I shall be starting in Léon on 20 December, so it is quite possible I shall be arriving in Santiago on 30 December.

I've looked a bit further into this, and according to Steven Rossi's site (http://www.geocities.com/stevenrossi/PlenaryIndulgence.html), I will need to take Communion on that day. That probably means arriving by noon for the Pilgrim Mass, unless there are any evening masses on that day - it is quite possible as it is a (former) St James' Day. But just to make sure, I'll have to get a move on!
My absolute deadline is arrival on 1 January, as my flight leaves on the 2nd, but my original intention was to arrive by the 31st - this new (to me!) information will certainly push me on a bit.

Thanks Sil, even if you didn't know it when you posted!
