Time of past OR future Camino
Last from Sarria to Santiago
Planned Portugese Rou
Hi everyone...
I'm new to the forum...I have done Sarria to Santiago twice with a group of friends...

This year in September I am doing the Central Portugese Route on my OWN 😭😭

So I am.just enquiring I have my passports from the 2 above Caminos and I wonder do I need a separate one for the portugese route or can I use the same one again...
Oh and I'm from Ireland 🇮🇪 😀
TIA

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Welcome!
Mostly people start a new camino with a new credencial, but I too like to use them up. If you have room enough left on your old one, (about twenty or so free squares would be enough if you're walking from Porto) you can still use it to claim a compostela for your new camino, even if you've already gotten a compostela with it.

Did you ask for a Compostela and get your credencials stamped at the pilgrim office at the end of your previous Caminos? If so then they are "closed" and cannot be used again. If not then you can still use them for another Camino.
Thanks for reply...
Yes I'm almost sure I did...I'll need to check....

It's ok to use the same credencial again. Even one that has been 'closed' can still be used to collect a compostela if it has enough space left. The Pilgrims Office will just put the cathedral stamp at the start and end of the new set of stamps.

They are so easy to get, so get a new one. For segregating your memories if nothing else.
Don’t be sad walking alone. You will meet many more new people that way. Also walking alone lets you think good thoughts.

The Irish credentials I've seen are beautiful, if it were me I'd get a fresh one for the new Camino.

You need the same type of credencial. So if you still have an unused credencial of the type you used on the Camino Frances, it will work on the Portugues as well. There is, however, a very nice looking credencial from the Portuguese pilgrim association that you can pick up in the cathedral in Porto and also use.

Generally, once a credencial has been used to claim a Compostela, that same credencial cannot be used again to claim another one [edited to add: or so I had been led to believe, Flog is far more authoritative than I on this], although if there is still room in it it can be used to walk on to Finisterre and/or Muzia to claim the Fisterrana and/or Muxiana.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.
