Hmm, I may not remove gaiters and gloves from my backpack before I start packing. I thought we'd escape the snow when we leave Norway and head for Pamplona. We'll start walking Tuesday 10th if the vulcano behaves.

Wait a minute. It's May 4 (now May 5th in Spain) and it's snowing?! Am I misunderstanding something? I can't believe this. Please clarify where and when these photos were taken.

Here is a blog where you can read 'live' about how cold it is. http://caminocomrades.blogspot.com/2010/05/4th-april-st-jean-pied-de-port.html These pilgrims have just come back to SJPP after a break, having already walked on one of the routes in France, from Limoges. They are, not surprisingly, bewailing the fact that they just got rid of some warm clothing, and they talk about how the Pyrenees crossing is closed.
I know there were severe snowstorms right at the end of April in 2008, and I am pretty sure there was at least one death on the crossing over the Pyrenees at that time. So it isn't as surprising as you might think! The north of Spain is not necessarily as warm as you might imagine.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
