Photos: Camino Animals

Time of past OR future Camino
Most recent: Fall 2023 Aragonés, Frances
Continuing the threads of subject specific photos. Seeing and photographing the animals we encounter along the way is something I really enjoy. I'd love to see other's animal photos.

I have it on very good authority that these two little chaps were seen just outside Pamplona last Christmas Eve.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Anyone have any experiences with zoos, nature parks along the camino. Any places that have the best opportunities for viewing wildlife?

I didn't see any zoos but the best experience I had with animals was on the Primitvo, walking over the Hospitales route, seeing and being very close to the herds of beautiful wild horses.

Yep, this is the kind of photo I took all the time- the slugs and snails at my feet!

I wish that I had taken a photo of the mare and foal that blocked our way in mid Sept. 2009. I had left Zubiri and was walking through the grazing area where you have to open and close pasture gates. There was a mare and her foal standing sideways across the path and there was no where to walk around them. So there was a pile of pilgrims trying to get them to move but no one wanted to walk behind them. Eventually some brave soul gently used a walking stick to move them parallel to the path and we all continued our way. It was so funny, but I never thought to take a photo.

I especially like the pony's headdress.
