You can forgive anything of the writer of "An Arundel Tomb" (actually in Chichester cathedral) for its final line alone: "What will survive of us is love."

Actually, the habit of "going abroad" on holiday probably originates from the 18c Grand Tours rather than medieval pilgrimages - or the Crusades.
