Hey All,
My son and I started from SJPP on 1 April 2023, we are currently in Burgos and I wanted to take some time to pass on some personal experiences for future pilgrims.
1. Flew into CDG from U.S.A. Easy Jet was way ecconomical from CDG to Biarritz, as last minute flight due to current Strikes in Fance.
2. Taxi from Biarritz to SJPP readily available from airport to SJPP hotels.
3. The Pilgrims office in SJPP provided detailed information as to the current situation along the Camino and provided recommendations
4. If you forget gear or need new gear there is a store almost directly across from pilgrims office with gear you may think you need or want.
5. Pilgims office provides you with an itenaray by stage and list of Albergues with phone numbers for each town or city.
6. Whats App is crucial as most Albergues use it to communicate.
7. I found booking.com to be useful as well when you can’t get into an Albergue for what ever reason.
8. Buen Camino App is an invaluable resource to track progress and keep you on the Camino. Very easy to use, along the way to Roncesvalles I came across two pilgrims who thought they were lost. I showed them they were on track. They walked away from me then returned to ask what app I was using. Buen Camino..
9. In order to get the most out of your technology, you must have a good connection. I use ATT, I put myself on the international plan and although it could get pricey, I have had zero connection issues. Other pilgrims have complained that thier apps will not function adequately.
10. The route is clearly marked, it just feels a little uncomfortable in the begining but soon you realize just follow the arrows. I have’nt noticed multiple markings that would cause confusion. Then you have the locals, everyone has been great, ask and they will be happy to point the way.
11. Keep euro change and small denomonation bills on hand in case you need to purchase small items.
12. We still have a ways to go but my son and I have found our pace and what works for us.
13. With a little planning you can experience a less stressful Camino journey and find attention for what you need as an individual.
14. Finally these are my personal experiences.
Adios from the Camino.
