Pamplona to Burgos - your favorite towns and albergues off main "stages".

Time of past OR future Camino
Camino Frances 2022 and 2023
Hi,

I have walked the Camino Frances once and am repeating this section since we love it so much. I will obviously explore on my own and leave a lot to serendipity, but would love to hear about your favorite towns, places to stay and other experiences off the main stages. We start walking last week in September. Buen camino everyone!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Ideal pocket guides for during and after your Camino. Each weighs just 40g (1.4 oz).
Hi there!

May you take it as inspiration, my itinary was:

Puente de la Reina: Albergue Jakue (not recommended, but lovely garden)
Los Arcos: Casa Austria Source (not recommended, better stop in Villamayor de Monjardin)
Logroño: Albergue municipal (highly recommended)
Najéra: Albergue Puerta de Najéra (highly recommended)
Grañon: Albergue Peregrinos Parochial (highly recommended)
Villafranca Montes de Oca: Albergue San Anton Abad (highly recommended)
Burgos: chosen Albergue don't exist anymore

Hope you enjoy!

Castildelgado, 5 km or so beyond Grañon, is my favorite "off-stage" stop. The only thing in the village is Albergue Bideluze.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Albergue San Saturnino in Ventosa for the peaceful back garden

Refugio Peregrinos Acacio & Orietta in Viloria de Rioja for the amazing hosts, communal dinner and pilgrim spirit

Camino del Perdón in Uterga. Very hospitable and a nice communal evening meal.
Hotel Palacio de Pujadas in Viana. In the middle of the town but quiet.
Las Águedas in Ventosa. A wonderful small hotel, very peaceful. Host cooked dinner for about 12 of us.

I stayed at Albergue Bideluze this year. It was fantastic with wonderful hospitaleros.

{I} would love to hear about your favorite towns, places to stay and other experiences off the main stages.

There is a short alternate route between Pamplona and Puente de Reina that allows you to visit the romanesque Ermita de Santa María de Eunate on the Camino Aragonese. We didn't take it on our Camino Francés but I did see it my Catalan and Aragonese a few years later. Many recommend the the detour. I do also. See the detour here (ignore the Spanish; there is a simple diagram/map on the webpage):

I had a wonderful stay in Alojamientos Acá y Allá in Urdaitz, just a little bit after Zubiri. The Albuerge is small and has a pleasant communal dinner, a swimming pool and a very kind host!
I love that Albergue however OP ask for places FROM Pamplona on and Urdanitz is good 20 km before.

Wholeheartedly agree. Beautiful relaxing place. I forgot the host's name but he is a kind and friendly soul.

Second that. Santa María de Eunate is a detour worth every extra meter.

Absolutely! Santa Maria de Eunate! But as you go thru Uterga, stop in at Camino del Perdon Alb on the left to see if they know if Eunate is open, and the hours. It's worth the walk in any case, but especially wonderful if you can go inside!

Casa Tiago in Luquin. A quaint and homely house.

Edited to say that Luqin is easily accessed from Villamayor de Monjardin (2.5km) if you choose not to take the alternative route from Irache. I could say a lot more about Casa Tiago - not least the kindness of Tiago himself. There is a very good bar close by which has great food, and overlooks the municipal swimming pool (seriously).

A selection of Camino Jewellery
Naverrete is not far from Logroño but it is scenic little town and Albergue de Iglesia just before the beautiful church is really nice, great kitchen if you want to cook (a German peregrino made rosehip jam while we were there) and comfortable rooms and friendly owners. After staying at the wonderful parochial albergue in Grañon, we stayed the next night at the Albergue Parroquial San Francisco de Asís in Tosantos. An amazing old building and a wonderful Camino atmosphere, great communal meal and a meaningful pilgrim ceremony.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Agree! Fantastic albergue and host AND dinner. Bonus points if the fiesta is happening in Cirauqui at that time.
I loved it also not only for the communal dinner, but for the fact that I met my Camino Angel there. We met up again just beyond Burgos and walked together the rest of my time in 2023. I visited him this summer at his home in England. It is as if we have known each other a long time. Chance encounters are the best part of the Camino for me.

Casa Magica in Villatuerta was a favourite of mine. In fact, I was struggling to enjoy Camino until then and staying there changed it. Ambience, space, staff etc
I also love Casa Magica! Lovely backyard to gather with other pilgrims, and the paella was fantastic. Always love a great communal meal.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Did you have any luggage transfers along this section (Logroño - Burgos)? If so, what name?

Since I am able to walk only in summer, I did it on my own back. My backpack just weight over 5kg, so no luggage transfer necessary.
