Number of pilgrims in 2005

2004, being a holy year, saw about 180,000 pilgrims, admittedly most of them in the last 100km. This is an enormous spike in the numbers. If you would follow the trend from 2003 wioth about 40,000 pilgrims, you would expect this year around 50,000.
Can somebody tell me if this is correct, based on the first half 2005 experiences?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
don't think the number for June has been released yet, but the figures for Jan-May are:
279, 546, 3128, 3305, 9306
a considerable increase on 2003. Deviation for March/April presumably due to Easter/Semana Santa being in March this year.

It's amusing to compare this with the early post-Franco years:
1977: 23
1978: 13

Where are you getting 40,000 from? Official numbers are at

Peter,
I stand to be corrected. Without checking I was quoting from memory, and I see now about 75,000 in 2003.
With the numbers you gave me for 2005, this would mean a healthy increase of almost 50 % in 2005, which would lead to about 100,000 pilgrims.
The popularity is certainly taken off.
