I have just purchased the Z-PAC poncho. It doubles as a ground sheet for a tent and weighs in at 150 gm. It's made of Cuban fiber, and is reported to be totally waterproof. The side zips look like it will stay on pretty well in the rain and wind. http://www.zpacks.com/accessories/groun ... ncho.shtml
(I found them when googlesearching raincoat poncho images - looking for ideas to make my own)
Caminogen....does the opening for your hands leave quite a bit of your arms exposed? It looks like it in the picture. And if so, could sleeves be attached? Also, did you experience heavy rain?
The "arms" are a little bit longer than 3/4 lenght and do taper off so the opening is not that big. One could add a snap to close them further. As for reliability, it worked fine in the incredible downpours I had between SJPP and Orisson and on my 34 km day to Monte de Gozo; my pack and my upper body were dry. As for the bottom, after a few hours, nothing will keep your legs dry unless you wear rain pants. The poncho doesn't fly in the wind because it does come in around the legs and it is seamed. I would recommend it for spring and summer but not late fall or winter.
The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Looking for recommendations.
