Hello all!

I need some advice, please.

I have everything ready and packed (well, almost) to leave home and head to walk the camino as soon as i have some free time.

Well, some things have changed and i am now in a position where either i do the camino ( from Astorga) as soon as next week, or maybe i will not have the time to do it for quite a long time, maybe some years (wife maybe with baby on the way)...

Question is:

As i am totally new to the camino, but not to walking, is it very dangerous to do it as a novice in the 2nd week of February, with all the storms and cold as it is now?

I know it will be difficult, but do you think it does not worth the effort? Am i risking too much? or the camino from Astorga to Santiago is relatively safe in this time of year?

Many thx in advance... i am very confused now

If I understand right, the sudden urgency is because your wife may be pregnant? It's good that you are thinking about whether your plans need to be changed now, and when your presence will be needed.

I am wondering whether you might want to be around for the next couple of months while she and you get used to the new situation and focus on the future.

It may well be that later on in the pregnancy you will both feel less 'disconbobulated' by the coming birth and change in roles for you both, and will welcome a little adventure and/or soul-feeding. Would she be able to come out and meet you en route or at Santiago, so that you could enjoy your last holiday together as a couple for some time/

Forgive me if I misunderstood your situation.

Hola Joao,

Honestly, if your wife may be pregnant, perhaps it is not the best moment not to be around her and live the experience from the beginning.

I did my Camino, 19 days, Burgos-Santiago, once my daughter was 18 months and she was easy enough to care, maybe you do not have to wait for so many years, you will find the right spot at some stage.

I was planning to do it september 2005, everything was prepared, then I got injured playing football and had to postopone it. Precisely on those days I was planning to go, my cousin died, and I was, in a way, glad I was here at home, and not walking somewhere in León/Galicia.

The Camino will be there waiting for you. As it happens, I did it seven months later, end of may to mid june, and it was an amazing experience.

Buena suerte, Joao, with that baby, I think your wife might need you these days too...
