Plan to walk Porto to Santiago in September with my husband
I mistakenly posted my thread as a comment to another's post so I am reposting here.
My husband and I are in the early stages of planning to do our first Camino walk from Porto to Santiago and we have some flexibility with regards to the dates and time. We want to avoid some of the crowds and thought we could go around mid September. Do any of you know how crowded this section is in mid September? Also wondering about the weather and whether we need to book a place to stay ahead of time? Are there hostels that cater to couples?

Holoholo automatically captures your footpaths, places, photos, and journals.
last year it was extremely crowded in the second half of September from Porto to Santiago. Full albergues, pilgrims turned away or sleeping on the floor. Sorry, don't shoot the messenger, but if I would go again I would compromise on the weather and go in late October, accepting cooler temperatures and more rain in exchange for more peace. Buen Camino, SY

Thanks for the info. Are there other accomodations along the way recommend if the alburges are full? Is it best to book other places to stay in advance of my trip? Thanks so much

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
There are many pensions, hotels and casa rurals all along the CP...on all routes.
If it turns out that it becomes crowded you can just book day by day. I would not recommend booking more than the nights you arrive in Porto in advance.
Booking in advance before you start walking takes away your options to stop where you want and pre-determines how far you will walk each day. Booking. com is used by many pilgrims if needed.
You will find that what the guide books and how you imagine it will go will be very different once you start.
Leaving it open will let you just flow with the adventure.

Good Morning

Four of us are leaving Porto on Oct 2nd for our second Camino. We are making reservations in some of the cities now and not finding any difficulties. I have successfully booked my first choice in 6 towns. Since we have already completed one walk, we have a good idea just how far we want to walk each day. And with Booking.com cancellations are very liberal.

Buen Camino
