Spain is imposing new information gathering rules on accommodation and other similar providers. Under the rules tourists will have to provide more extensive personal information at checkin.

Has anyone heard how albergues will be impacted?

I understand they will need to collect the same data and provide it to the government. There was a note about the development of a tool (Pilgrim-Pass) in reporting on the Camino de Santiago Siglo XXI conference by Anton Pombo here.

There’s already a new thread on this (“ETIAS”) and plenty of old ones. As of now, it’s best to wait until the program is actually rolled out since it’s been debated and delayed for years.

The OP could have been just a tad more accurate if they had pointed out that Spain has already imposed the new rules. They were imposed some time ago ( other threads passim).

It’s the enforcement of those rules and the associated penalties for non-compliance that seem to be the latest source of excitement.

As @Jeff Crawley has pointed out similar data gathering processes have been in place since the dear old Caudillo held sway. I remember Guardia Civil checking registers in the old Fonda I used to frequent. And I remember the sweat rolling of the forehead of some poor, semi-literate, inn-keeper as he hoped he’d copied all those foreign names and addresses that didn’t make any sense properly and that he could match the head-count to the register. Otherwise a beating was likely to be the least of his problems.

To the OP’s question. Nope. No one quite knows. There’s no distinction in the regulations between the Hotel Wellington in Madrid and Albergue San Nicolás en Larrasoaña. How those regulations get interpreted and applied…. We’ll find out, over time and can respond appropriately.
