I just heard from a Spanish friend that a new albergue has opened in Castroverde.
Name is A Pociña de Muñiz. 25 beds

EDIT: Thanks to @Mgardener’s post, I can clarify that this albergue is not in the town of Castroverde, where the Pensión Cortés and the municipal albergue are. It is almost 8 further along, still in the concello (municipality) of Castroverde, but the name of the village is Vilar de Cas. Gronze doesn’t show the listing yet, but the schematic map shows Vilar de Cas.

I just heard from a Spanish friend that a new albergue has opened in Castroverde. That means there are now three possible places to stay — the Pensión Cortés, the municipal, and a private. Castroverde is my preferred stopping point for the day before Lugo. Pushing on the extra kms after O Cádavo is really worth it IMO, because it gives you much more time to enjoy Lugo if you are not planning on spending a rest day there.

Hi Laurie. We are staying here tonight and are the very first guests! We walked from Fonsagrada today to Castroverde which is about 35km. We read about this new albergue so wanted to stay there but it's actually 8km out of the town towards Lugo and so we got a lift (and plan to go back and pick up where we left off yesterday) as the day had been long enough. It's a good stop from o Cadavo but a bit far from Fonsagrada imo unless you like walking over 40K.
It's amazing, incredible really. More like a five star hotel. It's so posh and grand, we feel a little out of place but really enjoy the luxury for a change. It's €14 per bed with private curtains and two private rooms are available too. Facilities are great and there's a big spacious kitchen but no pots and pans etc yet as they are still getting last bits ready but I'm sure it will be well kitted out. No shop nearby so we couldn't buy any food. The owners did everything to make us feel welcome and made some food for us, whatever we wanted, all produce from their farm, meat and vegetables, eggs, amazing. Best salad on the camino, everything fresh from the garden, couldn't believe it. So much thought and care is put into this place, they are still figuring out how to best do things but I'm sure all will be done very well. Beautiful cafe next door for pilgrims passing by and I imagine the food they serve there will be nice too

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I stayed there. Very nice and comfortable. The big advantage to this one is that it is closer to Lugo, allowing you to get in early the next day and see more of the city.

Oh, those annoying Galician place names. The article said it was in Castroverde, but you think I would know by now that Castroverde can be the name of the central town as well as its little municipal region. Do you happen to know the name of the place where this albergue is? On Gronze’s very schematic map, 8 kms from the town of Castroverde looks to be near the turnoff for the little romanesque church at Soutomerille. https://www.gronze.com/etapa/cadavo-baleira/lugo

EDIT: Vilar de Cas is the name of the village: https://www.apocinademuniz.es/

Hi Laurie yes that could be correct, our room was called Soutomerille so it might have been near the little church you refer to.I can't recall it as it was early still :-)

Yes, the Concello de Castroverde has 37 parishes and 151 villages.
Vilar de Cas is in the parish of Moreira.
