Never let it be said that I waste too much time here on the forum. I have my computer running, forum posts up, my ironing board and sewing machine nearby, shelf of books and photos on the left, smart phone on my right. [Edited to add: Also running on the computer are work-related programs that I am ignoring for the moment.]

This week I am working on an elaborate hand embroidered and appliqued Christmas stocking for my newborn granddaughter (first grandchild). I was trying to decide how to make the letter of her initial - what colour, what type of fabric, size, position, etc. I wasn't happy with the ideas I had, until...

I espied in my drawer of sewing notions, a piece of reflective tape left over from the shoulder pouch I made to carry phone and guidebook on the Camino. Two inches wide, long enough, silver reflective. It is perfect - I will cut the letter out of it and embroider all the way around to make it more elegant.

I am very happy to put this personal touch on a stocking that my granddaughter will likely have after I am dead and gone. "That piece of fabric was from my grandmother's long walk across Spain!"

How lovely Clare, and congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter. I see many sewing projects in your future x
