We bought our tickets on board the bus the day we traveled back to SdC.
In that case i strongly recommend not being dependent on getting on the bus (for example: to get to Santiago in time to catch a flight). Both times i took said bus i witnessed heated discussions with the driver from people needing to get on the bus and not being able to because it was full with people with reservations.
But if you have some time to spare, yeah, you can buy the ticket at the bus. Theres a number of them each day and it would not be the end of the world to spend another few hours in one of the nice bars in Fisterra.
