I heard other people say that / do that too... but it is not that bad IMO.I actually took the bus from Mansilla to Leon as I heard the whole stretch is along the highway.
I agree. It's all part of the Camino, and I remember having a delightful conversation with a young French Canadian pilgrim on this stretch that I would have missed if I had taken the bus.I heard other people say that / do that too... but it is not that bad IMO.
Ok, what's weird. I ended up talking to an ex-military officer Canadian from Halifax for hours that same day last time. I frankly didn't even notice the walk much.I agree. It's all part of the Camino, and I remember having a delightful conversation with a young French Canadian pilgrim on this stretch that I would have missed if I had taken the bus.
Yes, I’m sure it wasn’t that bad and it wasn’t my primary reason for taking the bus. I had really bad blisters at that point and when a Camino friend mentioned she was taking the bus, I was like sign me up! Here’s a pic of me waiting for the bus in Mansilla, this is my fave pic from the Camino because you can see how content I was with my decision not to walkI heard other people say that / do that too... but it is not that bad IMO.
Been there. Done that. No judgement here.Yes, I’m sure it wasn’t that bad and it wasn’t my primary reason for taking the bus. I walked that last part arriving in Leon on a Sunday. But after the peace and solitude of the Meseta in late winter, I was not into the bustle and tourist thing and kept walking. Doubled back later for the Cathedral and a day in Leon.actually took the bus from Mansilla to Leon as I heard the whole stretch is along the highway

Good Luck to you !!!! Love to be on the Meseta right now ....Tomorrow !
The inn across from the San Martin church in Fromista and the Monastery San Zoilo outside Carrion were two of my favorites. I walked up to San Zoilo without a reservation and got the pilgrim rate. Absolutely wonderful place.June
Castrojeriz (and the route into the town) was one of my favourite places. The views from the castle are magnificent and well worth a stop.

Indeed! Very charming little village, stayed there last March but you were apparently not open or I could not find it. Stayed in a bland, but nice place across from the bodegas.Moratinos is the center of the universe. Just sayin.'
It might be the Center, but you were in Madrid when I stopped in to say hi in 2017. I did get to meet Paddy and the dogs though, so all was not lostMoratinos is the center of the universe. Just sayin.'

Where did you stay past Leon?
A hostal across the river on the left, can’t remember and no record of the name. It was basic and in March. I was the only one there I think.Where did you stay past Leon?
Virgen del Camino? Is there a small village and albergue about 4 km past Leon? I vividly remember stopping at such a place - was it after Leon? - having only walked 4 km - because I was having some sort of internal meltdown. There was a wonderful Reiki/ massage person who put me back together for the rest of my Camino. This was 2007.
I really like the detail! Steps per day? And math? Awesome. Now THAT is a spreadsheet!

Past the river on the left? Sounds like you were still in Leon, but not in Old Town. The one on the right is very nice I hear...A hostal across the river on the left, can’t remember and no record of the name. It was basic and in March. I was the only one there I think.
Here is what may be their stamp and my mark on the Brierley map. I was on a leafy boulevard adjacent to the riverside parkVirgen del Camino?
I can't read it. No worries. Just was curious where someone would go past Leon... Buen camino! Here is what may be their stamp and my mark on the Brierley map. I was on a leafy boulevard adjacent to the riverside park

Left Burgos at midday( had to buy a new camera and a few other essentials), short day to Hornillos de Camino, next day to Itero de la Vega, next day to Carrion de los Condes, next day to Moratinos, next day El Burgo Ranero, next day got to Leon.Dear Pilgrims, what stages did you stop at between Burgos and Leon?
in so cal in the 80's they taught that song. So lucky to have grown up such in a diverse neighborhood.De Colores
Just wing it and see what turns up when you realise you are ready to stop!Dear Pilgrims, what stages did you stop at between Burgos and Leon?
I looked up my journal and we matched up almost exactly except we went just beyond Moritanos to the next town. Let's hear it for slow pilgrims! We see more!Rabedelas Calzadas, Hontanas, Castrojeriz, Boadilla del Camino, Población de Campos, Carrión de los Condes, Cazadillada de la Cueza, Moritanos, Sahagún, El Burgo Ranero, Reliegos, Puente Villarente.
Did not stop in San Anton, but agree about all your other highlights. No one has mentioned the church in Fromista. One of the oldest on the route and you can tour it for 1€.Here were my stops in October 2023, shortly before both San Anton and San Nicolas closed for the season:
Burgos
San Bol
San Anton
Ermita San Nicolas
Poblacion de Campo
Carrion de los Condes
Ledigos
Bercianos del Real Camino
Reliegos
Leon
The night in San Anton was the highlight of of my camino, second only to arriving in Santiago. San Bol is still interesting, though it now has electrity and hot water. The singing nuns of the Santa Maria Albergue in Carrion de los Condes were lovely and Bar Elvis in Reliegos is memorable stop, if you can catch it when he’s open. Lots of great options between Burgos and Leon.
Very curious about the 'fine dining' in Fromista, I clearly missed it.I can't resist stopping in Hontanos, Castrojeriz, Boadilla at en el Camino to visit with Eduardo, Fromista for the fine dining, San Zoilo, Moratinos to visit Reb Scott and eat at the Bodega, in Sahagun at the Benedictine albergue and then take the old Roman route as a long detour to stay in Religious

There's a different certificate you can get in Sahagun, too, if you walk there from Madrid. You guys know you can get like a halfway diploma from Sahagun? It's just another certificate but I personally like to collect them. Someday I'm gonna wallpaper a room with them all! (A very tacky room).
Note: since covid I've picked mine up at the library.

Where would you suggest to walk to until you get a bus or train on to Leon...I am short of time and it will be very hot when I go (July) but I would like to have at least a taste of the MesetaBurgos

Sahagún is the unofficial halfway point of the CF and you can get a train to León from there. It is bigger than a lot of the meseta towns and has a fair number of things to see.Where would you suggest to walk to until you get a bus or train on to Leon...I am short of time and it will be very hot when I go (July) but I would like to have at least a taste of the Meseta
