We went to the meeting place last June, no Camino members there and no one had written in the book for at least a week. And I was looking forward to meeting people.

I had the same experience as the other posters. No one there when I went. I don't know, maybe the thing to do is for forum members to post an "announcement" of their Santiago arrival a few days ahead of time, giving an invitation to others to meet at the Tertulia. I'll try that approach this July and see what happens. Buen camino, Laurie

Yes, that is a great idea. It worked that way when I met a forum member in November.

No other Forum members there when I went in July.
I had the same experience last year. I was at the Tertulia on 20th June but there were no other forum members. Also the bar staff knew nothing about the meeting arrangements.

After walking to Finisterre, Muxia and then back to Santiago, I went there again on 30th June. Again it was a no show.

I will try again this year when I will be in Santiago on 19th June and again on 28th June.

I think we've been through this before, Laurie.
Most of the interested forum members announced their (our) arrival but to no avail. Some had luck and met others there though

I'll just keep my fingers crossed for next time.

Yes, you're right we've been through it before, what prompted my post was Ivar's listing of the most liked and most quoted posts on the forum, and the Tertulia post is one of the top ones. This online response is very disproportionate to the actual response on the ground, so I was just commenting on that. You can bet that if I'm anywhere near Santiago when you announce an arrival, I'll make a superhuman effort to get to the Tertulia!

OK, that's the most liked answer for me so far

Have a nice day, Laurie!!!

An idea ahead of its time? Perhaps there is too much else to do than try for a Forum connection.

I wonder if the problem is the evening meet-up time? I intended to go the evening we got in to Santiago in March, but starting from Salceda it took longer than we thought and we were starving by the time we got there, so we checked in, showered and went for a meal. The next time I was with new friends who had already made plans to meet in the evening, so I chose to be with them before they left to go to Finisterra the next day. I think this is often what happens when you come into Santiago - find a bed, shower, go out to eat, meet people to celebrate or go to mass.

Do you think it would be better if we were to meet for lunch? Say after arriving the evening before, and going to the Pilgrim Office (which is nearer the Tertulia now?) in the morning for their compostelas or last stamp, pilgrims might want to have a leisurely lunch with other recent arrivals before leaving the same evening or the next day. Just a suggestion.

I went there last October - no others there all evening, but I think the barman gave me extra tapas for persevering
The last entry in the book was by SabineP.
(this was before I'd actually joined the forum. I'd been lurking for a long while, and thought,"hey, a chance to meet up and see what these forumites are like!!", expecting a group of half a dozen, at least.....

I don't know if this thread is now obsolete but I am planning on finding Tertulia tomorrow about 5-ish and hanging out for an hour . My time is flexible, PM me if a different time works better for you.

I really enjoyed meeting virananni when I was there in April. When I was back in June, I wasn't able to get over to Tertulia. If you made the meeting place in Bar Fuco Lois, you'd see me every night.

Veni, Vidi, "Vino'd"

Great place and, considering the scarcity of peregrino/as in town, no Forum folk was not a surprise.
