If anyone is going to be in Lisbon those days and would like to meet, I will be free most afternoons that week. I can easily get down to the cathedral area for a walk, a chat, a visit to the cathedral, a drink, a pastry -- you name it. Bom caminho, Laurie

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
I'm arriving late afternoon on March 31st so unfortunately will be unable to accept your invite. A week or so ago I emailed Pensao Prada (your recommendation I think) for a booking from 31st Mar, leaving April 3rd. No reply yet so I'd better chase that along.
Thanks again for your help and advice.
Regards
Gerard

Hi Laurie, We would love to meet up with you---my daughter and I will arrive in Lisbon late on the 29th, what time would you be available the afternoon of the 30th? We are staying at Avenida Almirante Reis, 229 and of course plan to visit the cathedral area. This will be our first time in Lisbon and first time on the camino portugues, and it is so nice of you to offer to meet. Please let me know what is convenient for you. Thanks!
Deborah

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hi, Deborah,
Woo hoo! So we are talking about Thursday afternoon? I will PM you, but how about 3pm at the cathedral? If others are going to be around, we can adjust. I am always quite recognizable as the obvious foreigner with a head of white hair. Bom caminho!

Hello Laurie. Me and my wife are in Lisbon too the same thursday. Would be nice to meet. 3 pm is suitable time for us. I'm another white headed person - also without cap.
Thank's in advance. Kimmo

Anyone else going to be in Lisbon that week?
Yes me! Yes me!
I'd love to catch up for a run-down on the city. If you could fit me in with any others I'd be eternally grateful. I'll happily play it by ear til closer to the date.
I'll be there nights of march 31st, April 1st and 2nd and maybe longer if I really like it (which I'm sure I will!).
I'm afeared the Gulbenkian Museum is going to hold me for a day all on its own.

Gerard

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Ahahahaha, Laurie, don't have enough participants already? :D

Never enough forum members! Two years ago there were 8 of us, last year only a few. This year, so far five on one day.

Hi, Gerard,
Unfortunately I am leaving Lisbon on the morning of April 1 very early. I could meet up on the 31st if you are going to get in early enough.

BTW, if you are a museum-lover, take a look at this "top 10" list.

http://www.10best.com/destinations/portugal/lisbon/attractions/museums/

I very much like Arte Antiga (nice location, too, nice garden with views of the river), Tile Museum, Museu do Oriente, but hands down the most fascinating, IMO, is the Museum of the Resistance. Opened right across the street from the side of the Cathedral in a former political prison, it has preserved some cells, and has terrific displays with videos, press reports, and general historical background. Very well displayed, English translations of everything. Free admission. It is an incredible official recognition and rejection of the Salazar regime. It only opened in 2015, I believe, on the anniversary of the "Carnation Revolution" on April 25, 1974. Anyone who is intested in Portugal's modern history should definitely head there.

Bom caminho, Laurie

Thanks for the offer Laurie but I get in late-ish.
Tks also for info on The Museum of the Resistance. A must see. I well remember the downfall of the Salazar regime and have been reading up on Salazar's life and the political history of 20th century Portugal.
I also intend to learn more about the great maritime history.
I thought to visit the tile museum as part of a short first day, maybe stop at the youth hostel before continuing to Alpriate the following day.
Regards
Gerard

The Museu da Marinha is out in Belem at the end of the monastery. http://ccm.marinha.pt/pt/museu

I haven't been there since about 2004, but I remember walking through room after room of models and boating instruments. I should probably go back and pay more attention. It is very big. The small Archaeological Museum next door has some nice Egyptian collections. (A tip -- if the lines are long to get into the Jeronimos Monastery, you can buy a combined ticket for monastery and archaeological museum at the museum and skip the line at the monastery).

Last year my husband went to one of the water museums in Principe Real, and got taken through the underwater cisterns -- there are a LOT of unusual museums in Lisbon!

Just bumping this up to see if any other forum members want to get together this coming week. I will be in Lisbon from tonight through early Saturday morning and am looking forward to meeting up with Deborah, Kimmo, and their partners. 3 pm Thursday in front of the cathedral!

Anyone else? Bom caminho, Laurie
