We are all so happy to pay our respects to Saint James when arriving in Santiago de Compostela. The well-informed pilgrim should know that his mother, Maria Salomé also has a church in SdC. The Iglesia de Santa María Salomé may be found on Rúa Nova, 31, small and unassuming. Those who know their Bible are aware that Maria Salomé was a follower of Jesus, she was one of the three Marias who witnessed His Crucifixion and death at Calvary and who brought spices to embalm him on Easter morning. She certainly deserves our respect as well

Matthew 20:20; 27:56, she is often portrayed in Red not as bright as the Magdellena, in a similar manner to Saint James himself. Here as the mother of Iákōbos in a Greek fresco

I agree that it’s a beautiful church. Getting inside may be a challenge. It seems to only be open in late afternoon/early evening, but the doorway is beautiful even if you can’t get inside.

When the Cathedral was unaccessible during renovations, over the past several years, the Church of St. Maria Salome was used for most of the normal daily Masses.

I attended quite a few Masses there. The church was charming. You could FEEL the history and provenance of the holy place.

Now that the Cathedral is now open again, I suspect that the Church of St. Maria Salome has returned to its role as a quite local parish.

I try to visit this beautiful church in honour of Mary Salome each year the mother of James and John!

I don't think I have ever seen it, but will try to check it out soon when I arrive in Santiago again.
